Monte Dutton is a writer. For most of his life, he has written about sports, and his focus was auto racing for two decades. He has written non-fiction books about high school football, NASCAR, and music.

Now he also focuses on fiction, in the form of short stories here, a collection (Longer Songs) and nine novels — The Audacity of Dope (2011), The Intangibles (2013), Crazy of Natural Causes (2015), Forgive Us Our Trespasses (2016), Cowboys Come Home (2016), and Lightning in a Bottle (2017), Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (2018, 2023) and The Latter Days (2023) — published so far. Another, to to be titled The Graduate Transfer, is in the works.

And he writes songs and plays a little guitar.
